Issue 18: a Super day, comic preorders, and SDCC schedules!

Tilly on the WB lot in front of their screening theater showing Superman, with the WB water tower wrapped in the Superman logo in the background

Sometimes life surprises you.

Then it surprises you again.

And you’re like OH WHAT?!

NEW STUFF

Last week we got to attend a screening of the new Superman movie on the Warner Bros. studio lot, in their huge five hundred seat theater. And then this happened:

Jim Lee introducing the Superman film in the front of a movie theater

That’s legendary comic artist Jim Lee introducing the film. He’s also the President, Chief Creative Officer, and Publisher for DC Comics.

And he proceeded to thank all of the DC talent who were in the audience for making DC Comics what it is. And he thanked everyone by name. Including us!

Hold up, wait a sec. Why would the head of DC Comics be thanking us Bridges ladies, if he was thanking people who work on DC books?!?

We can’t say (because an NDA says so :D)

It may be related to an unnamed project we’ve been talking about in vague terms in many past editions of this newsletter, but who can say? (again, not us, because…)

Staaaaaaaaaay tuuuuuuuuuuned!

But! If you want to support us and what we do, it’s a great time to pre-order Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming, our limited series from IDW!

Pre-orders are suuuuuper important for comics, because they show comic shops how much interest there is in a book, and the more interest they see the more copies they’ll order.

If you don’t pre-order your local comic shop might still have copies, but also they might not! Or they might only get a few and sell out and you won’t get one, and then you’ll regret it (trust us).

Comic ordering is a little wonky right now because the main distribution system for them sort of imploded, but if you go into any comic shop and ask them to get you Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming from IDW, first issue out September 3, they can do it! And they can pull a copy of every issue for you, as they’re released on a monthly basis.

We even made you a handy dandy graphic:

Three covers for Star Trek voyager homecoming issue 1 and the text: ISSUE 1 out Sept 3 from IDW final order cutoff July 28 UPC 82771403455400111

There are four different covers, three of which are shown above. You should be able to tell them which one(s) you want, but the fourth cover is tough. Only one copy is sent to a store for every twenty-five copies of the book they order, and most shops probably won’t order that many. So it’ll be pretty rare! We haven’t even seen it yet, but we think it’s the same as the lower left cover in the image above, only it’ll be in black and white.

Orders for issue 1 are only open until July 28, so go get those pre-orders in! Our story’s a real corker (who says that anymore? Us, apparently.). You’re gonna love it.

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

The Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming issue 5 script is in progress, and this is the finale, so… no presh (actually lots of presh). But it’s on its way!

We’ve also turned in the outline for our (hopefully first of many) episode of the new animated show we’re working on, so we’re waiting on approvals from the story editor, showrunner, and studio, and then we’ll either do a revision or move on to scripting.

And of course we’re swimming in prep for San Diego Comic-con!

This newsletter will be off for the rest of July, because SDCC eats an entire week, and also part of the week before (in prep) and after (in recovery), and we of course still have our Voyager and animation episode deadlines to hit, all while losing all of that time to work on them.

But the newsletter will be back on August 13!

If you’re gonna be at SDCC, come see us! Here’s our schedules:

TRANS TUESDAY UPDATE

Early July are Tilly’s big trans milestone anniversary dates, which means it was time for a FIVE YEARS OUT AND ON HRT CHECK-IN, charting all the changes that have come with social and medical transition in the past year!

And that’s it this time, as Trans Tuesdays are also on a brief hiatus due to the beast that is SDCC.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Key art for the “Sally” documentary from National Geographic, showing Sally Ride in an astronaut jumpsuit putting a helmet on, with rainbow lines emanating out from her.

It’s a new documentary on Sally Ride! It’s all about what a determined and smart person she was, and it’s also about her queerness! It’s definitely worth the watch.

THE DIRTBAG DISPATCH

Izzy and Dirtbag Henry loafing… in a line pointing right at us.

Looked out from our bedroom to see these two loafing in a line pointing right at us. What does it mean?!

Nothing, they’re totally not planning a kitty treat heist or anything, surely everything’s fine.

WHAT’S IN THE BIG TIME?

Big Time issue 18 gets into all the wonderful, beautiful ways you can use costuming to deepen character and help tell your story. Sometimes the clothes do make the (hu)man.

And the exclusive page three of a black and white action thriller comic pitch, Bulletproof, that no one else has ever seen!

Sign up for it at birdguestbroadcast.com and make us so happy!

THE END

Come see us at SDCC!

Or don’t.

We’re not the boss of you.
