Things are rolling right along.

Kind of uphill and we have to constantly keep pushing?

Seems bad.

NEW STUFF

To our entire surprise, Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming received an exclusive hardcover release??

The Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming hardcover

This was never available in stores, and isn’t something shops could even order with the rest of their comics if they wanted to. These were only available direct from the IDW website, and they come signed by Kate Mulgrew! So. Cool.

We have very limited quantities of these in our ko-fi shop. As of this newsletter going out, only two remain! If you want one of these rare books, with the complete Homecoming story, signed by Kate Mulgrew (and us!), grab it quick.

Two more of the interviews we did at SDCC have gone up, so check these out:

Comics Beat has an interview all about Just Another Summer, Long Away, Voyager: Homecoming, our work on Star Trek Prodigy, and more!

Interview: TILLY and SUSAN BRIDGES on JUST ANOTHER SUMMER, STAR TREK: VOYAGER: HOMECOMING and more
Comics Beat caught up with power writing couple Tilly & Susan Bridges at SDCC ’26 and asked all about Just Another Summer, Star Trek & more!

And The Geekiary did an interview with us all about Voyager: Homecoming!

And let’s do a roundup of all of Long Away’s upcoming festival screenings!

You can screen it online right now, through September 23, in the Gilbert Baker Film Fest, as part of their “Family Affairs” collection. It’s pay-what-you-can! You get access to a few other films along with Long Away, and there’s even an exclusive intro and outro to the film that we recorded just for this festival!

It’s also also an official selection of the San Francisco Transgender Film Festival, which runs from Nov. 12-22, at the Roxie Theater. More info on that when we have it!

The Systemic vol. 2 Kickstarter successfully funded! That means we’re getting paid (yay!) and you’re going to get to read our short, Battles Lost and Won, about gay witches discovering something far more powerful than the hate they’ve been taught. Nice.

We finally received (some of) our Just Another Summer copies, so paperbacks are in hand. We’re still waiting on the hardcovers. Once we’ve got both we’ll get them up in Tilly's ko-fi shop, should be early next week! Keep an eye out.

Some bigots found the Amazon listing for the Star Trek Voyager: Homecoming trade paperback and review-bombed it (because they literally have nothing better to do with their lives), so if you enjoyed it we’d appreciate you leaving it a review to help offset their assholery!

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON

The new pilot is still undergoing revisions (it’s a process). We also did script that other comic short we were mulling, so we’re submitting that to an anthology this week, once again teaming up with artist Andrea Rosales. She did the art and colors for Battles Lost and Won, and we really enjoyed working together!

Still working our way through the last bits of lettering tweaks and approvals on Princesses of the DC Universe, and Tilly got commissioned to write another article for Autostraddle!

Waiting to hear back from editors we followed up with post-SDCC, and other than all that, just dealing with other bullshit life’s been throwing at us. Whee.

TRANS TUESDAY UPDATE

The Trans Allegory of KPop Demon Hunters rolled on through parts 2 and 3, about the ways interacting with the trans community can change things for us, the shame society makes us feel over who we are, and the way people who we thought loved us can reveal that love and support is conditional upon not being trans.

THE IMPERFECT TRANS ALLEGORY OF KPOP DEMON HUNTERS, part 3 - Tilly’s Trans Tuesdays

RECOMMENDATIONS

The cover to Taiwan Travelogue by Yáng Shuāng-zĭ, translated by Lin King.

Taiwan Travelogue, by Yáng Shuāng-zĭ, is wild.

It’s important to stress that this book is fiction and it was written in 2020, because it’s extremely convincing historical fiction! It’s a story about enjoying local food, but it’s also about Taiwan’s history under Japanese colonization, and how clueless colonizers can be.

It centers on the relationship between a Japanese woman and her Taiwanese interpreter, and how eventually the Japanese woman learns that so many of her actions that she thought were helpful and complimentary, were actually harmful. But she’s willing to learn, and to try to do better, and the book is really quite charming.

THE DIRTBAG DISPATCH

Izzy lying on a bed with her toes primly tucked under her

Henry’s adapting to all his new meds about as best as he can. We tried crushing some up into churu, but he seemed offended by the very idea. Somehow, the method he finds least objectionable is us tossing the pills into his mouth and making sure he swallows them. He’s never not the worst.

Speaking of, he has good days and bad, but we know when they’re good because he’s as much of an asshole as ever. He is obsessed with Izzy’s dental treats.

To be clear, he gets his own dental treats. Which he eats.

And then he tries to get Izzy’s.

We have given him his own pile of the kind we give Izzy, and he rejects them entirely. No, they are only good if he steals them from her.

And Izzy, sadly, will just let him do it. She has weird food insecurities, where she’ll grab a mouthful of food from their dish, walk several feet away and spit it onto the floor, and then eat it in small bites from there. Almost like she thinks if she doesn’t do that, she won’t get to eat.

She had a brother and a sister in her litter, and we wonder if they maybe bullied her about food. Whatever the reason, she’s very skittish about it. So when we give her the treats, she’s constantly on the lookout for Henry. And if she thinks he’s even taking a step toward her, her head snaps up in alert.

We have to sit next to her, sort of guarding her from him, and constantly reassure her that it’s okay to eat them.

And then it takes her ten minutes, because she doesn’t know how to eat food she has to chew (she’s only ever had wet food otherwise), and she’s incredibly bad at actually chewing them.

Cats! They’re great.

WHAT’S IN THE BIG TIME?

Big Time issue 45 has the exclusive page six from one of our earliest comic anthology stories, the gritty 70s crime story, Morrow!

THE END

This is the end!

That’s why this section is called “the end.”

We’re good at naming stuff.
