NEW STUFF
Soooo yeah, that header image is, uh, pretty exciting!
This is the “big project” Tilly’s been working on for a few months, and yes… she’s working on it with Lilly F’in’ Wachowski!
Tilly has talked with Lilly a few times, since before Begin Transmission was even published back in the summer of 2023, and we’re delighted to tell you that she’s just as kind, brilliant, and funny as you could ever hope.
She was even kind enough to blurb Long Away for us, to help with our crowdfund campaign.
Back around the start of the year, Tilly had an idea that she reached out to Lilly about, and because she’s such a kind and lovely person, she wanted to hear more about it. So they had a zoom to discuss, and Lilly seemed into it!
She wanted a full proposal with all the details to look over, so Tilly spent a while putting that together and sent it over. While waiting for Lilly to look it over, Tilly enlisted the help of someone else with more experience in this particular thing, and they were more than thrilled to come on board.
The screenshot from the next zoom call to discuss that proposal is what you see at the top of this newsletter (taken and posted with Lilly’s permission, of course!).
There are a few small details about this mystery project in the What We’re Working On section below.
But also, uh, when you make a post hinting at something you’re working on with Lilly Wachowski, it becomes… news?!

Annnnnd here’s all the upcoming festival screenings of Long Away!
It’s screening online for the next couple of weeks, until September 23, in the Gilbert Baker Film Fest, as part of their “Family Affairs” collection. This festival has sliding-scale payment, and you get access to some other films along with Long Away, and an exclusive intro and outro to the film that we recorded just for this festival!

Annnnd of course, our middle-grade sci-fi superhero adventure comedy, Princesses of the DC Universe, releases March 2, 2027, and pre-orders are open!
WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON
The new pilot is still in early revisions. We’ve been busy to a degree of silliness that even we are uncomfortable with, but it’s still a priority.
We’ve heard back from a few editors we met at SDCC, and are talking with a couple others as well. Nothing concrete is going on there just yet, but hopefully they lead to some good news! At the very least we’re meeting cool new people who work in comics, and that’s a win.
We just did final lettering approvals for Princesses of the DC Universe, and we’re told we should have a completed digital version within a couple weeks. Then we’ll set about sending it to folks to blurb, or for early reviews, etc etc. Our editor at DC seems very on top of this, which is fab! But we’re not surprised, she’s been great all the way through, since we first pitched her the idea way back in the fall of 2023!
Regarding Tilly’s “mystery project” with Lilly Wachowski, suffice to say Lilly’s into it, and so Tilly and this other person (we don’t want to call them a “helper” or “assistant,” as those minimize their contributions) are pulling together more info on the logistics of starting to make this… thing.
We’re being super cagey about it because this may not be something that’s released independently, and if it does get picked up by a company who produces and releases these things, they may want to control how/what/when announcements happen. This is also why we’re not yet mentioning the name of the other person involved, as we’re sure many of you would recognize the name and it might give too much away.
Suffice to say things are progressing! We’re hoping to have some… stuff ready by May of next year, and then we’ll see if we get any bites. But just know there’s something happening, and it’s going to be supremely cool. In the meantime, there’s a whole lot of work on the part of Tilly and her co-conspirator (ooh, that term works well) to make it happen, and they are off to the races.
TRANS TUESDAY UPDATE
The Trans Allegory of KPop Demon Hunters wrapped up in part 4, where we see that conditional love isn’t really love, and that if you’re trying to fix an entire system that’s broken, you can’t just replace it with the exact same thing that came before. It all falls apart here, but it’s important to talk about why, and what that means.

And then we dove in to talking about Hair and all the ways it can be vital to our sense of identity, both in good ways post-transition, and in harmful ways of denial pre-transition.

RECOMMENDATIONS
The last season of Survival of the Thickest on Netflix was just as good as the first two seasons, and is genuinely funny and charming as heck. It’s also had some of the best, most consistent trans representation on tv, which is a great bonus.
It’s only three seasons of eight half-hour episodes, so it goes by entirely too quick, but it’s a delight for all of the far-too-few episodes we got.
THE DIRTBAG DISPATCH
We had about three weeks of unending 95+ degree days, with high humidity, in Los Angeles?! Climate change is bullshit. In any case, you can see even the Must Always Be Warm Izzy was stretching herself out too cool off.
We don’t want to jinx it, but the Dirtbag has had a really good couple of weeks! He hasn’t thrown up much at all, and he seems to be eating more and is being as much of an asshole as ever. That’s how we know he’s having good days: he’s an entire dick and a half to Izzy and to us. Awww, he feels good!
You can see here he’s even actually been playing with some of their toys for a change. So undignified! You didn’t see anything! He’s a grump, remember. Okay thanks.
