It’s actually fairly quiet at the moment, with not a lot of new stuff releasing right now. But check out the main image of this week’s newsletter, from last Sunday’s screening of Long Away in the Reeling LGBTQ+ Film Fest in Chicago!
We had no idea there would be audience voting. We don’t hold any illusions that we’ll win anything, but it’s nice to know at least one person in the audience loved it!

We were also on the War Rocket Ajax comics podcast (what a name!) and had a really fun discussion about Voyager Homecoming, Just Another Summer, and all things Star Trek.
And we participated in a Zoom roundtable discussion with several other filmmakers who are in the Trans Shorts block of films at this coming weekend’s Out on Film festival in Atlanta, if you’d like to hear us talk a little about making Long Away.
Tilly also recently appeared on the Forgotten Video Store podcast, which has one of the greatest concepts of any podcast we’ve seen: taking an old movie everyone’s forgotten about and having a discussion about it. The movie Tilly was on to discuss is the 1990 teen lesbian time travel movie You and What Army?
Only that movie doesn’t actually exist, and it’s all made up as the show goes on. It’s some remarkably goofy fun.

WHAT WE’RE WORKING ON
The new pilot is still waiting for more revisions. We’ve been dealing with a very big and bad life issue for the past couple months that’s just eaten most of our time and energy, and as this is the project without a deadline, it keeps getting pushed. We are gonna get it done, though!
Our manager has submitted us for staffing consideration on three different tv shows, and hopefully we’ll at least get a meeting from one of them. Honestly the industry has been so decimated that even having three shows to submit us to is a huge improvement. Oof.
We now have comic pitches in with multiple editors at publishers we’ve never worked with before, all for original projects of ours, so that’s exciting. Cross those fingers for us, again!
There’s another editor we’ve been friendly with for years and years, and we’ve pitched him multiple things that just didn’t work out for a variety of reasons. But he just said there’s a work for hire gig on an IP his publisher has that he thinks we’d be great for, so he’s putting us in for consideration for that. That’s so cool! We don’t know exactly what that IP is yet, but from his description it’s right in our wheelhouse, so we hope to find out more if his bosses also think we’d be a good fit.
Tilly’s project with Lilly Wachowski has taken some more baby steps, so it’s still moving along. The earliest you might find out what it is would be mid-2027, but given the rate at which these things move, that may be overly optimistic. But we’ll keep you updated.
Outside of all that, we’re going to try to get to scripting the fourth and final issue of the comic we’ve been independently financing for years and years now (we’ll tell you the whole story sometime, prolly when it’s done and hopefully finds a home), and scripting the next short film we want to make. It’s more ambitious than Long Away in terms of what it would require to shoot, but it’s also likely to be a good deal shorter, so hopefully it all balances out.
TRANS TUESDAY UPDATE
The series on hair continues, with HAIR 2: FIRST HAIRCUT. Which you might think is a silly thing to write an essay about, but when your hair was the only part of your body you ever liked, the thought of it going wrong is terrifying. Hop on the roller coaster!

And then we dive into HAIR 3: WHEN A HAIRCUT GOES WRONG. You might think that’s an even sillier thing to write an essay about, but when your hair is such a big part of how you found yourself and your new, true identity, it suddenly pushing you far backward into dysphoria is a horrible nightmare.

RECOMMENDATIONS
We had no idea what this show was about, because streaming services are so very bad at advertising their shows. But we are huge Tatiana Maslany fans, so we gave it a shot.
We loved her absolutely stunning work in Orphan Black, where she plays a series of clones with entirely different personalities and mannerisms, and then she outdoes every other actor ever by playing those clones pretending to be a different one of the clones, and you can tell that’s what’s happening because her acting is genius.
Anyway, this isn’t about Orphan Black, this is about the new show she stars in, Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. It’s about this woman who pays a camboy for some online fun times, and ends up embroiled in a huge blackmail ring.
Early on it very much feels like, “Stress: The Show!”, but it always peppers humor throughout, so even when things are super serious, there’s these lighter moments that bring it back up. It’s been really good, and Tatiana Maslany is as good as ever.
THE DIRTBAG DISPATCH
We love this photo of these two weirdos looking out the window together, though it’s also a little sad because Henry looks so much heavier here. This was taken August 1, and he’s lost so much weight since then. It’s really sad.
Hopefully the meds are helping and he’ll turn a corner. At the very least, he remains as much an asshole as ever, so… he seems to be feeling okay.
